CALL FOR INSTRUMENTS

BF Bifocals and West Fourth New Music Collective join forces to present a workshop exploring the intrepid field of instrument invention on July 7th, 2013 at Invisible Dog Gallery in Brooklyn. The workshop will be an informal first step towards a concert the following year. We are open to absolutely anything which has been created recently and can be considered a musical instrument by the broadest of definitions. This could include objects that have been in existence, but have not typically been thought of as musical instruments, though some element of recent human ingenuity is required.

If you have an idea for an instrument and would like to present it in an initial stage in June, we welcome that. If you already have an instrument in development and feel ready to include others in your process, we would like to match you with a composer to write for your instrument. The piece could be presented in a finalized or in-process form at the workshop.

If you would like to get in touch about an instrument, please send us a brief description along with any photos, recordings or web links that you feel are appropriate. If the instrument doesn't exist yet, write and tell us about your plan and your past work. Please note, this is not a call for scores. Our ultimate goal with this workshop is to have a concert of works written for these instruments by composers other than the instrument creator and performed by musicians other than either the composer or creator.

We currently have no budget for this project and the workshop will be free and open to the public.
